Last season, the club barely avoided relegation to a lower division of Italian championships and is now strengthening for the new "Serie A" battles by borrowing goalkeeper Sebastien Frey from another team, with the option to buy him next year for a certain sum. Talented 25-year-old Frey has previously been of interest to famous clubs like Bayern Munich, Arsenal, and Manchester United, but the ambitious team from Florence was the first to reach an agreement on his transfer. Frenchman Frey, who came to Italy to play for Inter Milan, later spent a season with Hellas Verona before moving to Parma in 2001, where he played 132 matches in four seasons. Last weekend, his excellent goalkeeping helped the club win the survival game against the Bologna team. Frey's place in the Parma team should be taken by Italian goalkeeper Cristiano Lupatelli - Fiorentina has already agreed to release him, so the 27-year-old former Roma and Chievo goalkeeper just needs to agree on the contract terms.
