After losing in the first Champions League knockout stage match, Piraeus team "Olympiacos" (0:2), "Manchester United" manager David Moyes lamented in shame and anger.
"We played very poorly. In this match, we didn't deserve anything at all," said the constantly criticized D. Moyes. "I am surprised. I never believed we could play so badly."
Meanwhile, "Olympiacos" coach Michel Gonzalez was bathing in the rays of glory in the suburbs of Athens.
"I can't hide it - I am extremely happy. I am very proud of my players for achieving such a result against a club of such caliber," rejoiced M. Gonzalez.
The "Olympiacos" coach did not criticize the very lackluster performance of the "Manchester United" team.
"I will never say anything bad about this team. I respect them a lot. Besides, the players know that the job is not done yet," M. Gonzalez added solemnly.
In the 38th minute, one of the authors of the first goal, Yiannis Maniatis, thanked the fans for the amazing atmosphere. It was after this player's shot that the ball hit Alejandro Dominguez's foot and changed direction towards the goal.
"It's a great victory against such a grand club like 'Manchester United'. Our plan was to win the battle in the middle of the field. We did that. The fans were amazing. We are very happy to have delighted them. It's fantastic," Y. Maniatis simply triumphed.
