On Wednesday, the last two matches of the first round of the UEFA Champions League round of 16 were played in Europe.
There was a downpour of goals in Gelsenkirchen. The local team "Schalke" hosted the visitors from Madrid, who mercilessly beat the hosts with a score of 1-6.
In the first half, not many goals were scored. The first goal was scored by Karim Benzema for "Real" and Gareth Bale doubled the lead in the 21st minute.
The next 45 minutes were especially productive for the team led by Carlo Ancelotti. Cristiano Ronaldo scored his first goal of the match in the 52nd minute and soon after provided another assist to Benzema.
In the remaining time, G.Bale and C.Ronaldo each scored once more, and at the end of the match "Schalke" forward Klaas-Jan Huntelaar magnificently beat Iker Casillas with a shot, who was just a few moments away from breaking the record for not conceding a goal.
In the other match, London's "Chelsea" team failed to return from Istanbul with a victory. "Galatasaray" snatched a draw with a score of 1-1.
In the beginning of the match, Fernando Torres put "The Blues" ahead, but in the 65th minute Aurelien Chedjou equalized, and no more goals were scored in the remaining time.
The second leg matches of the round of 16 will start in March.
