Former "Real" president: C.Ronaldo turned down the opportunity to move to "Barcelona" © EuroFootball.com

Former Real Madrid president Ramon Calderon revealed that Cristiano Ronaldo's career could have taken a turn towards Barcelona.

According to R.Calderon, before signing a record deal with Real, the Portuguese football star could have gone a different route.

29-year-old C.Ronaldo left Manchester United for 94 million euros back in 2009 to go to Madrid. During that time, he shone in the Spanish capital, scoring loads of goals. Last year he received the "Ballon d'Or" prize for the best footballer of the year.

R.Calderon told "talkSport" that the then Manchester United coach Sir Alex Ferguson tried to organize a journey for the Portuguese to Barcelona, but C.Ronaldo refused.

"For a couple of weeks, A.Ferguson tried to keep him from going to Madrid, offering Barcelona. The latter club was very happy about such a turn of events, but at the crucial moment C.Ronaldo said he was not going to travel to any other club - he wanted Real," said R.Calderon.
