The Georgios Karaiskakis Stadium witnessed the fierce derby between the home team Piraeus "Olympiakos" and Athens "Panathinaikos" with all its brutality. A footballer's life almost went out on the field, the coach was knocked to the ground by a thrown object, and the stadium was once again engulfed in smoke from flares.
In the 30th minute, a sense of tragedy filled the stadium. "Olympiakos" forward Michael Olaitanas fell to the ground and lost consciousness while running towards his own half of the field.
Soon after, the referee and players rushed to the aid of the 21-year-old Nigerian footballer, waving their hands frantically for urgent medical help.
Even the passionate "Olympiakos" fans were shaken, causing unrest throughout the match.
Fortunately, M. Olaitanas regained consciousness before being taken to the hospital. The young player underwent tests and his condition was reported as stable.
There have been several cases in football history where players' lives were extinguished during matches.
In the second half of the match, another incident occurred. Unsatisfied with their team's performance, "Olympiakos" fans threw a plastic cup filled with a drink at "Panathinaikos" coach Yannis Anastasiou in the middle of the half.
It seems that the coach was greatly affected, as he grabbed his head and fell to the ground. However, the match was soon resumed, and Y. Anastasiou celebrated an unexpected 3-0 victory on enemy territory.
