Saint Petersburg "Zenit" announced that Luciano Spalletti has lost his place in the club.
The 55-year-old coach has been working at the Russian club since 2009, but the owners decided to part ways with the Italian's services, and his place will be taken by former team player Sergey Semak.
L.Spalletti led "Zenit" to become Russian Premier League champions two times in a row, but last season this title was taken by Moscow's CSKA.
This season, the team from Saint Petersburg is still competing in the UEFA Champions League, but in the first leg of the quarterfinals against Borussia Dortmund, they suffered a 2-4 defeat.
The Italian specialist previously (2005-2009) coached AS Roma. Meanwhile, S.Semak will take over the coach's position until the end of this season, but depending on the results, the club may offer him a longer contract.
