Uli Hoeness, who was sentenced to 3.5 years in prison, resigns from the position of president of the "Bayern" club in Munich.

This week the court managed to prove that the German avoided paying taxes and thus concealed 27.2 million euros from the state.

62-year-old former footballer had the opportunity to appeal the court's decision, but refused, admitting that he made the biggest mistake of his life.

"After consulting with my family, I decided not to appeal the court's decision. Tax evasion has become the biggest mistake of my life," U. Hoeness expressed his disappointment.

"Furthermore, I want to announce that I am resigning immediately from the position of president and leader of 'Bayern'. This club is a part of my life and I hope to maintain relations with it," added the German.

The Bavarian team also thanked U. Hoeness: "The whole team wants to thank this man, thanks to whom 'Bayern' has become one of the most valuable and economically strongest clubs in the world."
