Former Barcelona club defender Luis Suarez Miramontes, also known as Luisito, stated that both Andres Iniesta and Xavi deserved the "Ballon d'Or" award more than Lionel Messi, who won this trophy four times in a row.
The 78-year-old Spaniard is convinced that one of the Spanish national team defenders who won the 2010 World Cup should have won the "Golden Ball", rather than the Argentine leader L. Messi.
"Spain has achieved a lot in recent years, so any Spaniard could win this award."
"The country has two very strong footballers Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, but I think that in the years when Spain won the World Cup, the 'Golden Ball' should have gone to Iniesta or Xavi," Suarez argued.
"That year, Iniesta and Xavi achieved higher results. We should not be confused - the award is given to whoever did more that year."
In 1960, L. Suarez became the first Spaniard to win the "Ballon d'Or" award.
