At yesterday's press conference, Gerardo Martino spoke not only about the upcoming match with Celta Vigo, but finally also mentioned his future prospects.
Lately in the Spanish media, various rumors have been circulating that after this season, the head coach of Barcelona will leave his position. It was claimed that G. Martino is allegedly considering the possibility of taking the helm of the Argentine national team or continuing work at some wealthy club in the Middle East.
However, it seems that this time, journalists' speculations are not destined to come true.
"The club president said that the coach works as long as the contract is valid. He is right. I am indeed a man of my word and I work as much as my contract allows," confirmed G. Martino.
The coach confirmed that in his contract with Barcelona, there is a certain amount specified, which when paid can terminate the cooperation, but the Argentinean unequivocally hinted that he does not intend to use that.
"I have already said that no one has any guarantees, but I simply strive to do my job well and win trophies with the team. Now, the most important thing for me is how the team will play in the next fifty days. I have no intention of hiding anything and speaking in innuendos - I want to work as long as my contract is valid," assured the coach of the Catalan team.
G. Martino's contract with the Catalan club is valid until June 30, 2015.
On Wednesday, Barcelona will play a league match at home against Celta Vigo, so the coach also commented on the team's mood before this match.
"I am not worried about my players. The team successfully overcame a difficult phase of the season, managed to recover and returned to the fight for the league title, so I have no doubt about the players' attitude. Now we need to get the maximum out of the victory we achieved in Madrid over the weekend. The team needs to play as well as they can. There is no room for relaxation, because now even the slightest misstep will greatly complicate the situation in the Spanish league," pondered G. Martino.
