"Juventus" victories craftsman Antonio Conte criticized the opponent's coach Rafael Benitez after a 0-2 loss to "Napoli".
In the match on Sunday at the "San Paolo" stadium, the team defending the Italian champions title for the third time in a row, the team from the capital of Piedmont suffered only their second loss this season.
After the match, interviewed by journalists from the news agency "Sky Sport Italia", A. Conte responded to comments by the highest paid team in Italy, "Juventus", against other "Serie A" clubs.
"We played against a team built for victories. After all, a club that spent a hundred million euros on players can only boast about victories," said the former captain of "Juventus".
"Talks about income are just one of the opinions. You can earn 500 million euros, but it all depends on how much money you allocate to strengthen the team. Last year, "Napoli" spent more than "Juventus" over three years."
"The numbers are documented. Last summer "Juventus" spent 25 million euros on players, while "Napoli" invested 100 million, but failed to advance to the Champions League group stage. Benitez should do the math before making statements that have no basis," stressed A. Conte.
Asked to name the reasons for the loss, the strategist emphasized the injuries that plagued the team and the busy schedule of matches.
"In the first half, we showed poor mindset and character, – commented the "Juventus" strategist about the match. – In the first 45 minutes, "Napoli" played excellently, and our performance was influenced by fatigue, injuries, and an intense schedule".
"The opponents successfully pressured us and were significantly more aggressive. In the first half of the match, "Napoli" played better, but after the break we took control of the game. Clearly, in evaluating the full 90 minutes, they deserved the victory," said A. Conte.
