While Carlo Ancelotti simply couldn't complain about the performance of his students, Jurgen Klopp was constantly looking back at the final matches and missed opportunities that did not turn into goals. On Wednesday, in the first match of the Champions League quarter-finals in Madrid, "Real" crushed Dortmund's "Borussia" team 3-0 and took a serious step towards the semifinals.
The German club's coach Jurgen Klopp believes that his team allowed "Real" to win too easily.
"We practically gifted them two goals and created them ourselves. The first goal can be credited to them, as it was a beautifully organized and finished attack, but the other two were too easily conceded," said the specialist who led his team to the final last year. "We didn't defend as we planned. We gave our opponents too much space. But we must understand that we were playing against one of the best teams in the world."
What hurt the coach the most was that the team couldn't capitalize on their chances, even though "Borussia" fans cheered multiple times, seeing the work of the attackers up front.
"We had many chances until the final whistle. A goal would have been very helpful, as winning 2-0 at home is possible, but scoring more is more difficult. We lacked that final touch, as we created many fast attacks, but either didn't finish them or directed them inaccurately. So if we are eliminated, we cannot say it's only because we defended poorly," said J. Klopp.
