Chelsea strategist Jose Mourinho poured his anger on his players after losing in the Champions League. On Wednesday, in the first leg of the elite tournament's quarterfinals in Paris, Chelsea had to admit the advantage of the Paris Saint-Germain team with a score of 1:3. Furious J. Mourinho called his players' defense funny and seriously belittled Fernando Torres and other attackers.
The 51-year-old strategist was upset by the chaotic defense that allowed the opponents to score three goals. Chelsea's player David Luiz scored an own goal in this match. PSG led 2:1 at that point, but in the extra time the French team managed to score again - a beautiful goal by J. Pastore adorned the match.
"The third goal was not a goal. It was a joke. Gary Cahill said the goal was soft. I would say it was funny," Mourinho complained, seriously risking saying goodbye to the Champions League.
Mourinho did not forget the eternal topic - the lack of attackers. During this match, the strategist chose safety for attacks, leaving Fernando Torres on the bench.
"We cannot convert half-chances into goals and still make individual mistakes in defense. We paid the price. We scored against ourselves, and also missed that joke. Not a goal, but a joke," said Mourinho.
In the second half, the Portuguese replaced A. Schurrle and allowed F. Torres to show himself, but the coach was not satisfied. This season, the Spaniard has scored three times in the Champions League.
"I am not satisfied with the performance of the attackers, so I had to try other options. When I chose Andre, at least I knew that we would have another player on the field who had the ball. He is another player connected to the other players, although he is not a striker," Mourinho said. "But football is not just about that. You have to score goals, get behind the defenders. That's what attackers are for. Real attackers. And I had to make that decision."
