On Wednesday in Spain was an extraordinary day - the final of the "Copa del Rey" tournament took place in Valencia, where the trophy was lifted by Madrid's "Real" football players.
At the "Mestalla" stadium, two well-known clubs faced each other - "Barcelona" against "Real". A fantastic run by Gareth Bale led to the victory of the "white" team with a score of 2-1.
The match started with the usual pressure from "Barcelona". The Catalonians controlled the ball, but did not create anything dangerous. In the 11th minute, Carlo Ancelotti's players took advantage of the opponents' mistake and after a quick attack, Angel Di Maria put the team in the lead.
Throughout the rest of the first half, both teams had chances to score, but the battle continued into the second half, where goals were not lacking.
In the 68th minute, the disappointed Barcelona fans were forced to get up from their seats by the young defender Marc Bartra, who equalized the score with a great header after a corner kick.
After that goal, Barcelona players woke up and started to press the opponents even more, although "Real" responded with dangerous counterattacks.
The decisive point in this match was made by Gareth Bale, for whom this title was the first with the Madrid team. In the 85th minute, he started his run from the midfield and, after a stunning sprint, beat Manuel Pinto.
Bale's goal against Barcelona was particularly painful and shattered the hopes of winning the trophy. The Spanish champions had a great chance to force extra time at the end of the match, but Neymar's shot went straight to the crossbar.
The last time the "Real" club triumphed in the Copa del Rey final was in 2011, when they also defeated the players of the Barcelona city team. This "Copa del Rey" trophy is the 19th in the royal club's history.
