On Friday evening, the players of Madrid's "Atletico" celebrated another victory in the Spanish "Primera" league, defeating "Elche" 2-0 and securing the top spot in the championship.
In the 50th minute, David Villa had a chance to put Madrid ahead, but he failed to convert an 11-meter penalty. The "Atletico" players at home finally broke through in the 72nd minute with a goal from Miranda after a corner kick.
In the 90th minute, "Elche" player Cristian Sapunaru received his second yellow card and was sent off the field. Diego Costa converted the penalty kick.
With three points secured, the Madrid club now has a six-point lead over second-placed Madrid "Real." Barcelona in third place is trailing by seven points.
