"Manchester City" defender Yaya Toure claimed that he is not recognized as one of the best footballers in the world because he is African.
In March, after the "Capital One Cup" trophy match, City player Samir Nasri stated that Y. Toure would be considered the best defender in the world if he weren't from Africa.
"I think what Samir said is true," revealed the Ivory Coast national player to BBC. "In fact, I only receive recognition from the fans and I say it sincerely."
"If you went to Africa, everyone would know who Lionel Messi is, but if you mentioned Yaya Toure in Europe, they would say, 'who is he?'"
"I am very proud to be African and I want to defend the people of this continent. I want to show the world that African footballers can be just as good as players from Europe or South America," said the 30-year-old Y. Toure.
