The Madrid "Atletico" club hopes to deter potential buyers of forward Diego Costa.
The footballer, who had a great season, has become one of the most sought-after players. Mostly of Brazilian origin, D. Costa has recently been linked with London's "Chelsea" team.
"We have renewed contracts with most players, including D. Costa, so we are determined to keep these players and eventually acquire new players who can integrate into the team," said Atletico's sports director, Jose Luis Caminero.
"Therefore, we want all the leaders, including D. Costa, to stay in the team, and the next season is planned with the idea that they will remain with us."
J.L. Caminero also commented on the situation of goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois. The Belgian plays for Atletico on loan, but belongs to London's "Chelsea" club.
"We have a good relationship with Chelsea, so we will reach an agreement that will be beneficial for us, for them, and for the player himself," said J.L. Caminero.
