For the past few weeks, it was almost certain that the Malian would move to another team in the city of Liverpool, which was willing to pay 7.2 million euros to the Spaniards. However, an unexpected counteroffer from Liverpool forced Valencia to change their minds.
"We acquired Momo Sissoko," rejoiced coach Rafael Benitez. "He is a very good defensive midfielder, full of energy and not afraid of hard work."
Interestingly, when he was still the coach of Valencia, R. Benitez specifically invited M. Sissoko to Spain from the team. The Spanish strategist also did not hide the fact that he hopes to acquire two or three more new players, and confirmed that L. Figo is among the possible candidates.
