In the Intertoto Cup on Saturday, without the matches of Vilnius "Žalgiris" in Latvia, seven second stage return matches took place. The biggest surprise was the Romanian team "Ecomax" from Cluj, who defeated Vilnius "Vėtra" in the first stage and managed to eliminate the Spanish team "Athletic Bilbao". The Romanian team won the first leg at home with a minimal lead, and in the second match, J. Gonzalez scored in the 36th minute to equalize the result, however, neither in regular time nor in extra time a winner was determined, so a penalty shootout followed, which the players of Cluj won by 5-3. The other well-known clubs did not disappoint their fans and advanced to the third stage - "Deportivo" despite a minimal loss against "Buducnost" away already had a convincing three-goal lead from the first match, "Wolfsburg" won 3-1 against local team "Sturm". Despite a loss, the Slovakian team "Dubnica" also advanced to the next stage and will face "Newcastle", while the Finnish team "Tampere" drew with "Lazio", Czech "Sigma" held on and will play against "Borussia", Swedish "Goteborg" defeated the Hungarians and will play against "Wolfsburg", and "Žalgiris", as previously announced, awaits a match with the Greek team "Egaleo". All participants of the third stage will be determined today after playing the remaining eight return matches of the second stage. The first leg of the third stage will take place on July 16/17, the second leg on 23/24. The draws for the semifinals and finals will be drawn tomorrow, on July 11.
