The club that finished in tenth place last season in "Ligue 1" announced that they acquired French national team and midfielder Camel Meriem.
The 25-year-old Frenchman is leaving Monaco for 6.5 million euros and is expected to officially sign the contract this Wednesday.
Initially, Meriem was linked with a club in Spain's "La Liga," but the player ultimately chose his native French team.
Meanwhile, Monaco tried to acquire Dutch midfielder Andy van der Meyde, who represents Milan, in recent weeks, but they were unable to reach an agreement with the Italian club, so they chose Meriem as their candidate.
The player himself seems very satisfied with the transfer and believes that by representing Monaco, he will be able to break into the French national team for the 2006 World Cup in Germany.
"I am extremely happy. Monaco was my favorite and I am delighted to have moved to this great club," said Meriem. "In Monaco, I will play in my favorite position, although I can play anywhere since I am a very versatile player and quickly adapt to different situations."
"I believe I made the right choice by choosing Monaco, as playing for this team gives me a great opportunity to be selected for the national team," the player hoped.
Before moving to Monaco, Meriem spent three seasons at Bordeaux. However, during the 2003/2004 season, the Frenchman was loaned to another "Ligue 1" club.
