The charismatic London coach warned the young Joe Cole that he will have to fight for his place in the team.
Portugal, when choosing the safe options, has quite a variety. Damien Duff, Arjen Robben, and J. Cole - all realistically vie for a spot in the starting lineup. Moreover, at least one more midfielder will likely be added to the team this summer.
"It is very difficult to play with A. Robben, D. Duff, and J. Cole all at once," said J. Mourinho. "But to maintain the team's model, only two out of these three will play. We need such competition."
Portugal, as the new season approaches, also stated that other English teams will need to significantly strengthen to be able to compete with "Chelsea," who easily won the title last season.
"This season other teams know how strong we are and they need to improve. If they have the same level of capability, they simply won't have a chance to win," added the confident coach.
"We need to show other Premier League teams that they cannot win at our Stamford Bridge stadium," the coach, not hiding his self-confidence, added.
"At the beginning of last season, I wanted to win everything and I am disappointed that I couldn't do it. I don't want people to remember me as a coach who won the English champions' title after a fifty-year break and would be satisfied with it for another five years," remarked J. Mourinho.
J. Mourinho also added that he was puzzled when the third-place players beat the honor lap.
"I saw how the coach and players, after the last season's match at home, which they lost to us, beat the honor lap," the strategist observed. "If they had done the same in Portugal, they would have been pelted with bottles."
