On Sunday, five more first leg matches of the UEFA Intertoto Cup will be played. Favorites "Wolfsburg", "Newcastle", and "Lazio" achieved convincing victories, while "Valencia" unexpectedly failed to score goals away, and tournament surprise "Ecomax" played a draw with "Saint-Etienne".
"Wolfsburg" traveled to Sweden to face "Goteborg" and defeated their opponents 2-0. The German team scored goals in the 35th and 55th minutes through A.D'Alessandro and M.Franzas respectively. "Newcastle" also won by a two-goal margin, triumphing 3-1 away against Slovakian side "Dubnica" – M.Chopra, A.Shearer, and J.Milner scored for the winners, while L.Tesakas scored a consolation goal for the hosts.
"Lazio" achieved an easy victory at home by crushing Finnish team "Tampere United" at the Olympic Stadium in Rome. Goals were scored by debutant M.Belleri and both forwards T.Rocchi and P.Di Canio. Valencia had a harder time in Belgium, as their match against "Gent" ended in a goalless draw.
In the potential matchup against Vilnius-based "Žalgiris", the first leg between Klužo "Ecomax" and "Saint-Ettiene" ended in a 1-1 draw. After C.Tilincos scored for the home team, F.Piquionne later equalized, so the team advancing to the next stage will be determined in the second leg match in France.
