The Italian national team player and forward will represent the Italian vice-champion club next season - ending the long-standing speculation about the talented player's future on Monday with his signing of a five-year contract with the new club.

The 23-year-old Gilardino has expressed his desire to move to the "red and black" team multiple times and rejected offers from abroad, but the Milan club was unwilling to pay the price requested by "Parma". The player's future was finally decided on Monday, and "Milan" agreed to buy the player for, reportedly, 24 million euros.

"Finally, I am a 'Milan' member. It took time to settle everything, but now all that is left is to undergo a medical exam. I can't wait to start training," rejoiced the footballer. "Why did I choose 'Milan'? This club fascinates me, in European football it is truly the strongest, and wearing this team's jersey is a huge honor."

Gilardino scored 23 goals in each of the last two seasons of the Italian "Serie A" championship and is one of the best forwards playing in the country. He has previously played for "Hellas Verona" and "Piacenza" teams, and made his debut for the Italian national team last September.

This is already the fifth acquisition of "Milan" this summer, as the team has already been bolstered by J.Vogel, M.Jankulovski, D.Eleftheropoulos, and C.Vieri. Six players have left the club - C.Brocchi, C.Abbiati, H.Crespo, V.Dhorasoo, G.Pancaro, and J.D.Tomasson.
