The long-awaited transfer of young Brazilian Robinho to Madrid may not happen. The Brazil Football Federation (CBF) refused to officially confirm the transfer under the current conditions.
It was previously announced that the Spaniards paid $30 million to the "Santos" club for the player, which is 60% of the total contract redemption price of $50 million. The remaining amount belongs to the player himself and his agent Wagner Ribeiro, but they refused the money.
However, one of the leaders of the Brazilian federation, Carlos Eugenio Lopes, claims that unilaterally terminating the contract, "Real" would have to pay the full $50 million amount in order to have the player on their team next season or wait until 2008 when the striker's 21-year contract ends. According to C.E. Lopez, the federation will not provide a transfer certificate for one of the most promising footballers on the planet, which is required to officially change clubs.
"We will deny the certificate because it does not comply with current laws," said C.E. Lopez. "We cannot release him according to Brazilian or FIFA statutes. Brazilian laws state that in the case of a unilateral termination of the contract, the full contract redemption price must be paid."
C.E. Lopez also stated that the federation also requested the transfer not to be confirmed, as did the "Santos" club itself, not wanting to lose one of their best players.
