On Sunday, defending the last season's Scottish champions title earned on the last day, Glasgow Rangers club started the new 2005/06 Premier League season with a smashing victory at home, beating Livingston 3-0.

At Ibrox Stadium in Glasgow, Rangers took the lead in the 23rd minute after a goal by Croatian Dado Pršo. The score was doubled in the 53rd minute by debutant Jose Pierre-Fanfanas. In the 74th minute, Livingston player R. Brittain was sent off from the field, and the hosts secured the victory in the final moments of the match with Peter Lovenkrands.

After this victory, Rangers moved Lituania-influenced Edinburgh Hearts club and Inverness CT from the top of the standings. The other Glasgow club, Celtic, still recovering from the shock of the Champions League, played a draw with Motherwell, while A. Skerla's Dunfermline ended their match against Hibernian in a draw as well.
