The defender of the French national team and club, Sebastien Squillaci, has extended his contract with his current team for another two years.

His previous contract with Monaco was valid until 2007, but now the footballer has decided to tie his future with the team until the summer of 2009.

Squillaci's extension for another two years in the club seems to have influenced another Monaco defender, Julien Rodriguez, to decide to leave the team, as Squillaci is his main competitor for a place in the starting lineup.

According to reports, Rodriguez is actively being pursued by Glasgow and other clubs. The Scottish team is offering him a four-year contract, but the player seems to prefer an English club.

However, rumors have been circulating recently that a club is also interested in the 27-year-old Frenchman, so it is quite possible that Rodriguez will continue to play in Ligue 1.

Monaco coach Didier Deschamps, when asked about Rodriguez's departure, said that they will not try to hold the player back.

"We are not going to do anything. The doors of our club are always open to all players," Deschamps said.
