Club representatives today announced that they have signed a contract with former Milan and Netherlands national team midfielder Edgar Davids.

The 32-year-old player moved to the English team without any fee after successfully passing a medical examination and is expected to make his debut in the lineup of Tottenham club in friendly matches this weekend against the Portuguese team.

Throughout his long career, Davids has played for clubs such as Ajax, Juventus, and Milan.

England's coach, Martin Jol, did not hide his joy that his team managed to acquire a player of Davids' caliber.

"I am convinced that everyone in the club is very pleased with Davids's arrival," Jol said. "Edgar is a top-class player, one of the best footballers of the past decade, so it is a great honor for me that he agreed to represent our team."

"All of our players are ready to fight, and I hope that acquiring Edgar will help us climb a few steps up," Jol added.

Davids is already the sixth player to join Tottenham this summer. Before him, the club signed contracts with Tom Huddlestone, Aaron Lennon, Wayne Routledge, Paul Stalteri, and the young star Teemu Tainio.
