The semi-finals of the Intertoto Cup did not feature a lot of intrigue, as the winners of many matches were already practically clear after playing the first leg, or with half an hour left until the end of the match. Two French and Spanish teams each, one German and one Romanian team advanced to the tournament final.
Klužo "Ecomax", who crushed Vilnius "Žalgiris" in the second match, will face French team "Lens" in the final, who won convincingly against German club "Wolfsburg" at home.
The most interesting match took place in England, where "Newcastle" led by J. Milner had taken the lead in terms of overall result of both matches, but goals by J. Andrade and P. Munitis led to "Deportivo" from La Coruña advancing to the final, where they will face "Marseille" team. The latter, playing for an hour, scored three goals in five minutes and eliminated the Rome "Lazio" club.
The first leg of the Intertoto Cup final will be played on August 9th, with the second leg on August 23rd. The winners of the three final ties will receive tickets to the UEFA Cup tournament.
