The Vilnius "Vėtra" club, recently decided not to sign a contract with Nigerian Anselem Orisakwe, continues the search for new players - this time goalkeeper Mirza Merlani from Georgia has arrived for a trial, as announced on the official website of the capital team.
24-year-old M. Merlani represented the Georgian youth national teams throughout his career. From the 2000s, he played for four years in the Tbilisi "Wit Georgia" team and last season won the country's champions title with them, lately the Georgian represented the Kutaisi "Torpedo" team.
Although this season, apart from one match against Panevėžys "Ekranas" where he conceded eight goals, in the remaining 18 matches he conceded relatively few, that is 15 goals, the performance of the team's goalkeeper Ramūnas Merkelis, who has not always been reliable, is considered one of the weakest positions of the capital team.
Since the backup goalkeeper for "Vėtra", Arvydas Kacinkevičius, is barely 18 years old and has not been given the opportunity to play in the championship by coach S. Borovskis so far, and it is uncertain whether he is preparing to do so, the club management seems to have decided to follow the example of "Vilnius" and invited a foreigner for trial for this position.
