English will not put up with swearing © EuroFootball.com

After a period of intense discussions involving representatives from the English Premier and Championship leagues, football referees, players, and club officials, it was decided to take strict sanctions against attacks on referees.

For all English leagues, from the Premier to Sunday leagues, referees were recommended to show a red card without hesitation for any curse word or attack directed at the referee.

The decision also notes that referees should not tolerate mass abuse. The English Football Federation stated that they will always support referees, who should not be afraid to show even multiple red cards to players involved in abuse or fights.

However, the decision proposes that referees should consider whether the curse words were just a burst of emotions not directed at anyone in particular, or a deliberate insult to the referee. In the first case, it is recommended to warn the player, and in the second case - to immediately show a red card.
