The defender of the Italian champions Turin club will not play anymore this year - the right-back player injured his tendons and will not be able to step onto the field for at least four months.

The 30-year-old defender suffered the injury in a friendly match against Lisbon, in which the Italian club defeated the opponents 2-0. Now the player will have to keep his foot in a cast for two weeks and only then can undergo surgery.

Birindelli arrived to Turin from "Empoli" eight years ago and during that time played 154 matches with "Juventus" and won the Italian championship four times. He will definitely miss the start of the upcoming new season and will probably only be able to play from January of next year.

It is believed that Birindelli's injury could further intensify Juventus' interest in Benfica defender Miguel, but team coach Fabio Capello stated that before making a decision, the club's executives and coaches will first have to consider this situation.

Miguel himself is currently involved in legal proceedings - the Portuguese claims that his contract with Benfica has expired, but the club believes the agreement is still valid for another year, so FIFA had to intervene in the whole conflict.
