The first matches of the third qualifying round of the UEFA Champions League have ended. Krakow's "Wisla" caused quite a surprise by defeating the "Panathinaikos" footballers and getting closer to the main Champions League tournament.

The eleven of "Rangers" stopped the sensational journey of "Anorthosis" across Europe, defeating the Cypriot team away 1-2. Oslo's "Valerenga" at home broke the Brugge footballers with a minimal result, after Steffen Iversen's goal, but few expect the Norwegians to reach the main Champions League tournament.

"Manchester United" took care of business in the first match, defeating the Hungarian team 3-0. The other English team had a worse outcome - "Everton" lost at home to "Villarreal".

The biggest surprise was provided by the Poles. While Krakow's "Wisla" conceded the first goal at home, they did not falter - the "Panathinaikos" goalkeeper had to take the ball out of the net three times.

Seville's "Betis" snatched victory in the last minutes against "Monaco". The goal was scored by Luis Edu.

The second leg matches will take place on August 23/24. The group stage draw will take place on August 25.
