On Saturday in the last round of the "A Lyga" championship, Vilnius "Vėtra" played at home against "Šiauliai" and defeated their opponents convincingly. This time in the match held in the capital, the Vilnius team took the initiative at the beginning of the match - in the 41st minute, a penalty was awarded for a foul against I.Steško in front of the visitors' goal, which was converted by A.Preikšaitis.
In the second half, five minutes into the game, N.Vasiliauskas doubled the hosts' lead after the goalkeeper saved N.Sasnauskas' attempt with a follow-up shot. The last player's shot bounced off the crossbar and crossed the goal line at the end of the match, but it did not have a significant impact on the game, and "Vėtra" celebrated another victory against "Šiauliai".
After this victory, "Vėtra", whose defense recently welcomed defender from Ukraine Sergejus Khistevas, maintained an eight-point advantage over "Sūduva" in fourth place, having played fewer matches, and kept a six-point gap from second-placed "Kaunas", while "Šiauliai" remain second to last.
The next round of the "A Lyga" will be played next Saturday, on August 20, and in the middle of next week, on Wednesday, Lithuanian football will focus on the national and youth team matches against Belarus.
