Former Lisbon defender Miguel will play for the Spanish team for the next five years. This was officially announced today by representatives of the Spanish club.
Valencia has been looking for a right-back defender for some time now to replace the injured Curro Torres. Initially, the Spanish club actively negotiated for defender Jan Kromkamp, but the deal fell through.
Meanwhile, Miguel has been in legal disputes with Benfica, as the latter team did not want to let the player go, while the player claimed that he is a free agent and can join another team. It is believed that the Lisbon club won the case and Valencia had to pay around 8 million euros for the player's rights.
The 25-year-old Portuguese, who was previously also sought after by Juventus and Newcastle, will arrive in Valencia this Monday for a medical check-up and will be officially introduced to the local fans.
"He is the player that our team really needed," said Valencia coach Quique Flores, not hiding his joy. "I hope he will quickly adapt to the team."
Miguel is already the ninth purchase for Valencia this season. Earlier, the club was joined by Edu, Patrick Kluivert, Juan Luis Mora, David Villa, Mario Regueiro, David Cerrajeria, Fabian Estoyanoff, and David Valle.
