The club officially confirmed that it has received two offers to purchase the forward Milan Baros. The French champion has presented an offer worth 8.5 million pounds, while the English Premier League mid-table team is offering a slightly lower sum of 6.5 million pounds.
"I am not in a hurry to sell the player," said the Champions League-winning coach Rafael Benitez. "We have received a very good offer from Lyon, as well as from the Aston Villa team."
"Now we are waiting to see what happens next. We will analyze the offers, but for now he is our player."
Meanwhile, the top scorer of the European Championship seems more inclined to stay in England. The Czech player, who has already agreed on personal contract details with Aston Villa, said: "I have nothing against the French club, but England and Spain will be my first choice."
"Aston Villa has improved their offer, and we have already agreed on the financial details. But that doesn't mean that negotiations are over. This team is really good, and I don't think it would be a step back. My situation would be better there."
Benitez also confirmed that he has no intention of bringing back Michael Owen, who is struggling to find his place in the Madrid team.
"When I read the Spanish press, it makes me smile because we are not planning to acquire M. Owen and we are only looking for a center-back."
