The season of the English "Premier" league continues. Yesterday, the first three matches of the third round were played, after which the tournament leader changed - the club became the leader.

The Manchester team defeated the debutant "Sunderland" team 2-1 away. The goals for the winners were scored by the new summer signing Darius Vassellas and Trevor Sinclaire.

In the next match, "Middlesbrough" convincingly defeated the "Birmingham" team 3-0 and moved up to seventh place with four points. Among the winners, the Australian Mark Viduka scored two goals, while Franck Queudrue defeated Birmingham's goalkeeper with an excellent shot.

Meanwhile, "Aston Villa", playing a man down from the 10th minute, drew 1-1 with "Portsmouth". The visitors took the lead through R.Hughes scoring an own goal, but T.L.Lua Lua equalized the score in the 42nd minute.

On Wednesday, there will be four matches from the 3rd round: London's "Arsenal" will play another capital derby against "Fulham," "Chelsea" will face "West Brom," "Blackburn" will play against "Tottenham," and "Bolton" will face "Newcastle".
