Alberto Luque exchanged Spain for England. The 27-year-old footballer, who spent last season at Deportivo La Coruña, is moving to England for 14 million euros.
The Spanish club announced that the negotiations were successfully concluded late on Thursday evening and the footballer has already left for England, where he will undergo a medical examination. After that, A. Luque should sign a five-year contract.
"I am extremely happy that the negotiations have ended," said A. Luque. "The English league is truly great and it will be a great honor for me to play alongside Alan Shearer."
The left winger arrived at Deportivo in 2002 for 15 million euros from Mallorca. Last season, the Spaniard was the most productive player for Deportivo, scoring 11 goals.
A. Luque's arrival practically means that we are unlikely to see Michael Owen at Newcastle. Although the Magpies still do not rule out the possibility of acquiring the Englishman, it is doubted whether the club could afford it financially.
