The team captain Roy Keane has announced that he wants to play for the Irish national team again.

Keane, who has not played since the end of the 2002 World Cup due to conflicts with players and then-coach Mick McCarthy, has decided to return to the team after talks with national team coach Brian Kerr.

The "Man Utd" defender hinted that after McCarthy left his position, he could return to the national team. In a statement from Keane's representative Michael Kennedy, it was stated that "after discussions with Brian Kerr and Sir Alex Ferguson, Roy Keane has agreed to represent his national team in the future."

Keane could return to the team as early as this month when the Irish national team plays a friendly match against the Polish team.
