On Friday, the 2005 UEFA Super Cup match took place at the "Stade Louis II" stadium in Monaco, where the winners of the previous season's Champions League and UEFA Cup, Liverpool and Moscow's CSKA clubs, met. In a back-and-forth match, the English club celebrated victory after extra time.

82' [1 - 1] Djibril Cisse

103' [2 - 1] Djibril Cisse

European champions Liverpool were without their team captain S. Gerrard, unable to play due to injury, while CSKA played without one of their attacking leaders Ivica Olic, who had suffered a serious knee injury earlier this month.

Liverpool started the match more actively, while the "army" team tried to play on the counterattack. The first threats to Moscow's goal came from D. Hamann and L. Garcia, but both of their shots were saved by I. Akinfeev, and later attempts by the Spaniards L. Garcia and F. Morientes flew wide.

CSKA came close to scoring in the 27th minute, when M. Krasic, after fooling S. Hyypia, shot near the goal. However, the Russian team scored a goal just a minute later - after a great pass from the Brazilian V. Love, his compatriot D. Carvalho rounded the goalkeeper J. Reina and sent the ball into the net, putting his team ahead.

During the remaining minutes of the half, the English team tried to respond with dangerous attacks, but L. Garcia and D. Hamann continued to shoot wide, so despite Liverpool's initiative, CSKA surprisingly won the first half of the match.

In the second half, five minutes into play, D. Carvalho almost doubled the lead, but his shot from 25 meters was caught by Reina. The Liverpool club, in turn, responded with two dangerous attempts from defender Josemi, which were also off target.

With the Moscow team in the lead, coach V. Gazayev decided to strengthen the defense and substituted the injured J. Zhirkov with D. Semberas. Just two minutes later, the Lithuanian was involved in his team's attack, but being completely free on the side, he did not receive D. Carvalho's pass as the latter tried to take the shot himself, but did not pose any significant problems to the opponents' goalkeeper.

As time dwindled to the end of the match, in the 79th minute R. Benitez sent one of his most dangerous weapons D. Cisse onto the field, and after three minutes he scored the equalizing goal: L. Garcia chested a pass for his teammate, S. Ignashevich's attempt to clear the ball hit D. Cisse's hand, and with a lucky ricochet, the striker managed to score into an empty net.

After the end of the regular time, the teams had to play extra time. In the first period, after playing for thirteen minutes, D. Cisse once again scored - after a mistake by S. Ignashevich, he found himself one-on-one with I. Akinfeev, and although the goalkeeper initially blocked the shot, the Frenchman sent the ball into the net on the second attempt.

At the start of the second period, V. Love had a chance after a pass from D. Carvalho, but his weak shot from close range was saved by J. Reina. This was a crucial moment in the match, as shortly after a good pass from D. Cisse, L. Garcia, free in front of goal, headed accurately and secured Liverpool's victory.
