Ligue 1: "Lyon" becomes the leader © EuroFootball.com

On Sunday, the remaining two matches of the fifth round of the French "Ligue 1" championship were played. The other eight matches took place on Thursday and Saturday.

The central match of the round took place at the Osero Stade Abbé-Deschamps stadium, where the local "Auxerre" hosted the defending champions "Lyon". From the very beginning of the match, the current "Ligue 1" champions took the initiative and broke ahead in the 6th minute after a goal by Mahamadou Diarra. As the first half was ending, "Lyon" doubled their lead - Brazilian Juninho scored a goal in the last minute of the half. After failing to recover from the second conceded goal, "Auxerre" could not turn the tide, so the match ended with a score of 2-0.

After this victory, "Lyon" climbed to the top of the league table, as the previously leading Parisian "P.S.G" club unexpectedly had to admit the superiority of "Nice" with a 1-2 result at home on Saturday.

In the next Sunday match, "Monaco" and "Lens" faced each other. Although "Monaco" was considered the favorite, the team that had previously defeated "Auxerre" 7-0 did not allow the guests to score. The match ended in a goalless draw.
