"Premier" League - "Chelsea" Becomes the Sole Leader © EuroFootball.com

Today in the English Premier League, five matches of the sixth round were played. After them, the sole leader of the championship became the London club "Chelsea", winning the maximum number of points - 18.

In the most intriguing match of the round, "Chelsea" faced the previously unbeaten "Charlton" club. Despite Alan Curbishley's team playing at home, the visitors proved their class in the second half and celebrated a 2-0 victory.

In the first half, "Chelsea" failed to capitalize on several real scoring opportunities, with Argentine Hernan Crespo having the best chance to score, but the striker missed the target. However, the visitors also had a real opportunity, but Danish goalkeeper Dennis Romedhalio's shot was slightly off target.

In the second half, "Chelsea" began to put pressure on the opponents, and although initially William Gallas shook the "Chartlon" goal frame again, the goal was eventually scored. M. Essien, taking advantage of a mistake by the opponents in midfield, accurately crossed the ball into the penalty area, where H. Crespo sent it into the net from about 11 meters. Just five minutes later, Dutchman Arjen Robben once again beat the hosts' goalkeeper and practically sealed the end of the match.

In the other match, "West Ham" beat "Fulham" 2-1 away, while the remaining three matches between "Portsmouth" and "Birmingham", "Sunderland" and "W.B.A." and "Aston Villa" and "Tottenham" ended in draws with identical score lines of 1-1.
