The Madrid club officially announced on Tuesday that they will not appeal the goal scored by Barcelona's Espanyol defender Daniel Jarque, which helped the Catalan team celebrate a victory by a minimal result against the Royal club on Sunday. However, Real remains firm in its opinion that the goal was scored after the referee's whistle.
"Some referee mistakes are acceptable, some are not," said Real president Florentino Perez at a press conference. "This mistake was unacceptable. However, we will not appeal out of respect for the Espanyol team."
Espanyol coach Miguel Angel Lotina stated that Real's attempt to annul the result is an attempt to shift the team's problems on the field onto others.
"The real problem is not that Real lost, but that other teams, with much weaker players, win by playing as a team," explained M.A. Lotina. "Until they understand this, mistakes will continue to happen. Personally, I would gladly give them those three points, as a victory against Real is much more important than three points."
