n Saturday and Sunday, the 5th round of matches took place in the Italian championship. All three championship favorites - "Juventus", "Inter" and "Milan" - secured victories, while "Palermo" suffered their first defeat of the season against "Lazio".

In the Saturday matches, last year's champion, Turin's "Juventus" club, defeated "Parma" 2-1 away. Although the hosts took the lead after a peaceful M.Delvecchio strike, "Juve" managed to equalize the score in the 43rd minute with a goal from M.Camoranesi, and P.Vieira secured the victory for the "black and whites" with a goal 8 minutes before the end of the match.

In the other Saturday matches, "Udinese", who finished 4th in Serie A last year, lost 2-0 away to the "Reggina" team. This was the third consecutive defeat for "Udinese", who have been showing poor form recently without V.Iaquinto, who refused to extend his contract.

Italian Cup winner Milan's "Inter" continued their successful performance by defeating "Fiorentina" at home. The black and blue team sent their opponents down in the beginning of the match when Nigerian O.Martins scored. Both teams failed to score any more goals for the rest of the match, and Milan added another three points to their tally.

Probably the most interesting and beautiful matches of the round took place in Rome, where local team "Lazio" defeated "Palermo" 4-2. Although the visitors were leading 2-0 after 50 minutes, in the second half of the match, the "Lazio" players showed their strong character by scoring 3 goals in 7 minutes and overturning the result. Any doubts about the outcome of the match were dispelled in the 86th minute when "Lazio" forward T.Rocchi scored the fourth goal for his team after a beautiful combination.

Meanwhile, the vice-champion "Milan" easily defeated the debutant "Treviso" 2-0 away. Ukrainian A.Shevchenko successfully converted an 11-meter penalty just before the end of the first half. In the second half, Milan's newcomer A.Gilardino doubled the lead for the team.

"Chievo" achieved an unexpected victory by defeating "Sampdoria" away. The success for the visitors was brought by goals from D.Franceschini and V.Obinna.

The only goalless match of this round took place between the "Cagliari" and "Roma" teams. Despite Roma's coach L.Spaletti hoping that his team would prove their stability with a win, his players disappointed him once again.

In the other round matches, "Livorno" won 2-0 at home against "Ascoli". Both goals were scored by the hosts, who are currently in third place in the league and the biggest surprise of the season so far, in the second half.

Meanwhile, "Empoli" continued their successful performance in the championship by defeating "Lecce" with a minimal margin for the second consecutive match. The only goal of the match was scored by N.Pozzi in the 65th minute.

In another battle of the underdogs, "Siena" won 4-2 at home against the "Messina" club. T.Locatelli and E.Chiesa contributed the most to the victory for the hosts.
