Fired "Lecce" Coach (Updated) © EuroFootball.com

After a disappointing start to the season in the Italian Serie A, the club announced on Monday that they have terminated the contract with the head coach Angelo Gregucci, who has been replaced by the well-known Silvio Baldini, who achieved fame with Empoli.

Under Gregucci's leadership, the team managed to earn only one point in the first five championship matches and currently occupies the penultimate, 19th position in the tournament of twenty teams.

Gregucci joined the team just this summer, replacing Zdenek Zeman in the position, but he was unable to improve the team's performance and secure a single victory.

Today, Lecce also announced the dismissal of Gregucci's assistant Cristiano Bergodi and the team's fitness coach Alessandro Ciullini. The club leaders explained this decision by the need to change the entire team's personnel in order to rehabilitate after such a season start.

The Italian press mentioned the former strategist of Empoli, Palermo, and Parma, Silvio Baldini, as the most realistic candidate to take over as the head coach of Lecce, and these speculations have been confirmed - the 47-year-old coach has officially been appointed to the yellow-reds' coaching position today.
