Coach Rafael Benitez has denied rumors in the Spanish media that his team will try to acquire Spain's national team and Real Betis defender Joaquin.
It has been reported that the struggling English club this season, in order to attract the 24-year-old Spaniard, may pay a fee of around 10 million euros. In addition, as part of the deal, French striker Djibril Cisse, who cannot find a place in the Liverpool team, would move to Spain.
Meanwhile, a Spanish newspaper published a report that Joaquin's agent attended the weekend match of Liverpool and met with the club's head scout Pachu Herrera.
"These stories are false," asserted R. Benitez. "But I keep reading in the Spanish press that we are trying to lure Joaquin to England. His agent was not at the match, and we have never made any offers or player exchanges."
"Our position is clear. We are not interested in acquiring this defender. I can only assume that in Spain they are trying to move Joaquin from the Betis club."
Earlier, Liverpool manager Rick Perry stated that the main target for the team during the winter transfer window will be another defender - Portuguese Simao from the team.
