The head of the organizing committee of the 2006 World Cup in Germany, Franz Beckenbauer, attacked the coach of the German national team, Juergen Klinsmann, in the press and suggested that he should spend much more time in Germany and not ignore the advice of other coaches.
J. Klinsmann faced harsh criticism from the German media after the 2-1 defeat in a friendly match against the Turkish national team last Saturday. After this match, several "Bundesliga" team coaches publicly questioned the wisdom of holding intense physical endurance training just days before the match.
Beckenbauer believes that the national team will definitely look different when they return "home" for a friendly match against the Chinese national team on Wednesday, but added that Klinsmann could find many ways to reduce tension in the team camp.
Beckenbauer stated that Klinsmann should spend much less time at his home in California, USA.
"He should also seek help from other coaches," Beckenbauer wrote in his column in the Bild newspaper on Monday. "This means that he should at least listen to the advice of well-meaning coaches and make some adjustments."
"Another problem is his absence in Germany," Beckenbauer continued. "In such important World Cup years, he should definitely spend more time in Germany than in the USA, as it has become a habit."
Meanwhile, Bayern Munich coach Felix Magath stated that the defeat against the Turkish national team on Saturday was just a normal "slump" in form.
"It was just a simple stumble, a slump in form," said the Bayern coach. "It should not be overly dramatized."
