In other group matches, there was no expected miracle for the Spaniards: although Spain crushed the group underdog San Marino 6-0 away (F.Torres scored three goals, S.Ramos added two, and Raul added one), the Serbian and Montenegrin team defeated Bosnia and Herzegovina 1-0 with a single goal by M.Kežman.
This victory allowed the Serbian and Montenegrin team to become the winners of their group and thus secure a ticket to the 2006 World Cup in Germany. Meanwhile, the second-place Spaniards will only go to the World Cup by winning the play-off matches.
