After playing the 7th round of the Spanish championship on Sunday, no more unbeaten teams remained - both the former leader "Getafe" and the mid-table team "Zaragoza" suffered defeats.

The victory at home by 2-0 against Vigo "Celta" allowed Pamplona's "Osasuna" to equal points with the championship leaders Real Madrid. The Pamplona team managed to secure the victory with two goals in the second half - scored by Serbian Savo Milošević and Pierre Webo.

The former championship leader Real Madrid "Getafe" suffered their first defeat away to Seville's "Betis". The only goal of the match was scored by Brazilian Ricardo Oliveira from 11 meters in the 18th minute. Additionally, the hosts finished the match with ten men as defender Diego Rivas received a second yellow card in the 89th minute.

The only other unbeaten team until this round, "Zaragoza," also suffered a defeat - they were narrowly beaten at home by San Sebastiano "Real Sociedad." The only goal of the match was scored early by Xabi Prieto, who successfully converted Garí Uranga's earned penalty from eleven meters. The visitors ended the match with ten men as midfielder Mikel Aranburu received a second yellow card in the 72nd minute.

The match between "Mallorca" and "Racing Santander" ended in a goalless draw, however, Hector Cuper's team missed the opportunity to secure their second victory of the season as Juan Arango missed an 11-meter penalty.

"Valencia" secured an important victory at home by defeating "Malaga" 2-1 without strikers David Villa and Patrick Kluivert. The goals for the hosts were scored by defender Roberto Ayala, who scored after a corner kick taken by M. Angulo, and midfielder Vicente, who scored with a long-range shot that ricocheted into the net, while "Malaga" gave hope in the middle of the second half through former "Valencia" forward Salva Ballesta. After this victory, "Valencia" surpassed the clubs Barcelona and Deportivo to occupy the 5th place.

In an unexpected victory away against Barcelona’s "Espanyol," the league debutant "Cadiz" secured a 2-0 win. In the final moments of the match, "Espanyol" defender Armando Sa was shown a red card.

In the last Sunday match, celebrating its centenary, "Sevilla" narrowly defeated Bilbao's "Athletic" club away. Although in the opening of the match Frederic Kanouté missed a great chance to lead the visitors, Brazilian Daniel Alves scored a spectacular long-range goal at the end of the first half. Despite the hosts, who had not won in five consecutive matches, trying to fight back, their hope was somewhat diminished when defender Francisco Tarantino was sent off the pitch in the 76th minute.
