fter the matches of the penultimate round of the Swedish championship ("Allsvenskan") played on Monday, the new champions were revealed - the club.

Although the Stockholm club played 0-0 away against "Orgryte" on Monday, "Hammarby" victory of 3-2 against "IFK Gotheborg" who were in the second place allowed "Djurgardens" to secure the champions title with one round left until the end of the season.

"IFK Gotheborg", who are in the second place after this round, are behind the new champions by four points. "I think that this year we are the best team, we scored the most goals," said the coach of the champions, Kjell Jonevret. "No one could match us this year, so we deserve the title."

"Djurgardens" had previously become the Swedish champions in 2002 and 2003, and has been playing in European tournaments for the past five years in a row, as the champions title gives the opportunity to play in the second qualifying round of the UEFA Champions League.

"Djurgardens" is a familiar club to Lithuanian football fans. In the summer of 2004, the multiple Lithuanian champions "FBK Kaunas" played with the Stockholm club in the second qualifying round of the UEFA Champions League, playing a goalless draw away and losing 0-2 at home, thus missing the chance to meet Turin's "Juventus" in the third round of qualifications.

Meanwhile, T.Žvirgždauskas' "Halmstad", who won the silver medals in the league last season and managed to eliminate Lisbon's "Sporting" club in the UEFA Cup this year, collected 18 points less than the winner and finished only in 10th position, ahead of only four teams in the league table.
