The Lisbon club experiencing a crisis due to poor results has announced that head coach Jose Peseiro has left, the Portuguese club reported on Tuesday.

"I have confirmed J. Paseiro's request to be relieved of his duties as head coach," said the president of Sporting at a press conference.

Under the leadership of J. Peseiro, Sporting suffered a second consecutive defeat on Sunday, losing at home by a minimal score to the team of "Academica."

After Sunday's defeat, Sporting is in 7th place in the Portuguese championship, having collected 12 points in seven matches.

The 45-year-old J. Peseiro, who arrived at the club in July 2004, helped Sporting reach the UEFA Cup final last season, where the Lisbon club lost 3-1 to Moscow's CSKA.

J. Peseiro became the third coach in Portugal to leave a club either by losing or by his own will.
