Young star Lionel Messi has been allowed by the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) to play for Catalonia's superclub in the Spanish championship.
In the RFEF statement, it is stated that L. Messi plays with a youth license and already has Spanish citizenship.
Although L. Messi has already represented Barcelona in this year's UEFA Champions League matches, in order to avoid risks, Barcelona's officials did not allow the young Argentine to play in the Spanish championship.
L. Messi, who has played in Barcelona's youth teams since childhood, received Spanish citizenship in mid-September, but lawyers representing the interests of La Coruña's "Deportivo" and "Alaves" filed a protest claiming that the Argentine national team forward obtained citizenship after the deadline for player registration, August 31.
However, following this decision by the RFEF, the 18-year-old L. Messi, who helped Argentina's youth team become world champions in the summer, will finally be able to represent Barça in the Spanish championship.
